2002-03 Be A Player Parkhurst Hockey Hobby Box
2002-03 Be A Player Parkhurst Hockey Hobby Factory Sealed Box
24 Packs per Box
The 2002-03 Parkhurst hockey set will take you back to where it all began.
The granddaddy of all hockey brands, Parkhurst is the original name for hockey cards in the modern era. Beginning in 1951-52, it was the first annual mainstream hockey card release. For nearly every year from 1951-52 through 1963-64, collectors looked forward to collecting cards of hockey's biggest names including Howe, Richard, Sawchuk, and Plante.
2001-02 marked the return of the Parkhurst brand and collectors responded enthusiastically proving the popularity of the name is as strong as ever more than 50 years later.
Now comes the newest, and dare we say, the best Parkhurst set ever. Slated for release on February 27, it will consist of a 250-card base set with a striking design that pays homage to the Parkhurst heritage. A subset incorporates 50 of the hottest rookie cards of the season. And each of these rookie cards will be short-printed and sequentially numbered to 500. Of special note is a rookie card of Russian legend Valeri Kharlamov!
Look for three parallel versions of the base set including Bronze (numbered to 100), Silver (numbered to 50), and Gold (numbered to 10) editions.
Memorabilia card collectors will be bowled over by a selection of no fewer than 280 different inserts featuring pieces of game-used items from a myriad of superstars. You'll find big guns from today like Mario Lemieux, Patrick Roy, Steve Yzerman, and Dany Heatley. You'll also find yesterday's legends including Maurice Richard, Terry Sawchuk, Guy Lafleur and Bobby Hull. Each box will contain one game-used memorabilia card. And to ensure collectibility, the stated production run for any one card will be less than 100!
Memorabilia-card highlights include Magnificent Inserts, a 10-card set devoted to "The Magnificent One", Mario Lemieux. Featuring anywhere from one to four pieces of Lemieux's game-used memorabilia, a limited number of each of these 10 cards are autographed. In the Game is the only hockey-card manufacturer that offers signed Lemieux cards in 2002-03.
College Ranks is an 18-card set devoted to NHL stars who graduated to NHL stardom through the U.S. college ranks. Each card features photography of stars like Brett Hull, Paul Kariya, and Dany Heatley in their college hockey uniforms. And each card is also available with a piece of that player's NHL jersey. A non-memorabilia version of this set has also been seeded in packs.
Vintage Teammates is a terrific series of memorabilia cards certain to stir vivid memories of a different era. Who can forget talented combos like Jean BŽliveau and Doug Harvey in MontrŽal, Lanny McDonald and Tiger Williams in Toronto, brothers Bobby and Dennis Hull in Chicago, or even Vladislav Tretiak and Valeri Kharlamov on the Soviet National team?
Milestones is another series of note. Designed to celebrate recent significant statistical achievements of many of the game's most prominent stars, it originally consisted of 10 game-used memorabilia cards. However, In the Game pulled out all the stops to add a very special 11th card to the set. Patrick Roy recently accomplished something no other goalie has done; he played his 1,000th career game! This astounding milestone is now commemorated in the new Parkhurst set. Only 33 copies of this card exist.
Other game-used memorabilia insert sets in Parkhurst include Franchise Players (30 cards); Triple Teammates (20 cards); Vintage Memorabilia (20 cards); Game-Used Jerseys (58 cards); Game-Used Stick and Jersey (50 cards); Patented Power (10 cards); NHL Heroes (12 cards); and Mario's Mates, a unique 10-card set pairing Mario Lemieux with another superstar he has been teammates with in various NHL seasons, All-Star Games, or international events.
There is more in each box of Parkhurst besides memorabilia cards. In a fitting tribute to the Parkhurst hobby heritage, and picking up where last year's Parkhurst set left off, an additional 150 different Parkie Reprint cards have been included in this product. Numbered from 151-300 and incorporating cards originally released in Parkhurst sets from 1951-52 to 1963-64, they serve as a vivid reminder of what collecting was like in a different era.
Hockey Hardware is another unique and interactive insert series. Featuring groups of 10 NHL stars from six categories, these inserts encourage hobbyists to collect and send in cards of the players they believe will win one of six different trophies including the Hart, Vezina, Calder, Norris, Art Ross, and Lester Pearson trophies. If the player you send in wins that respective award, you become eligible to receive a special memorabilia card of that player numbered out of 10.
As is the norm at In the Game, each pack of Parkhurst will contain a He Shoots, He Scores decoy/redemption points card or a memorabilia card. The decoy cards are designed to prevent pack searching. Collect enough points and you can redeem them for a special memorabilia card of an NHL star numbered out of 20. These memorabilia cards will not be available in packs.
Every box of Parkhurst holds 24 packs and each pack contains five cards plus either one memorabilia card or a He Shoots, He Scores decoy/redemption point card.
2002-03 Parkhurst brings you quality, quantity, tradition, and value. It's a combination that cannot be beat!
